Research & Insights
The preliminary research and idea for the product emerged from a type 1 diabetes design studio group project. During this class, secondary and primary research was performed to better understand the disease and learn from people living with type 1 diabetes and their health care providers about their communication challenges with one another.
One of the main findings: currently, it might be challenging for patients living with type 1 diabetes and their health care providers to address sensitive personal topics during a regularly scheduled clinic visit. The discussion of sensitive topics is essential for preventive care and management of the disease.
After the class concluded, a design faculty member, an endocrinologist and myself decided to continue working on further developing the idea, since we believed it could potentially improve the communication between health care professionals and people living with type 1 diabetes.
